Video Poker in Social Clubs?

August 28th, 2008

Social Clubs

Social clubs like legions and fraternal organizations usually are permitted to raise money to pay their bills and give to charity. They use raffles, scratch cards, and bingos, and many have video poker games. In the past these establishments were permitted to have the machines, but many places in North America are cracking down and forcing the clubs to take out the valuable games.

Many of the clubs have become dependant on the revenue the machines bring in, and to take them away often means the closure of the club. In the U.S. some are trying to have legislation passed to make the machines legal for 5000 of these clubs.

If the club’s existence is dependant on the machines, why wouldn’t governments allow them to have them? The answer to that is that some establishments manipulate the machines, and make shady backroom payouts. There is nothing in place to regulate the clubs.

Video Poker: How to Liven Up Your Game

August 14th, 2008

Video Poker

Video poker is not the same game you played in the local tavern in the eighties. The game has evolved into multiple exciting variations that offer more than just drawing a couple of cards over and over.

Today you can play other variants that have multiple hands played at once. You can play Triple Play, Five Play, Ten Play, Fifty Play, and One Hundred Play types. You can play games that have the double-up feature. You just bet everything that you win in a hand on choosing a bigger card than the one that you’re dealt. That makes it a lot more exciting, but it can be a waste of time if you get dealt a big card.

If you want to spice up the way you play, you can have some fun searching out a positive expectation game. You’ll find them off the Strip if you’re in Vegas.

Buzztime’s Texas Hold ‘Em Video Poker

August 7th, 2008

Buzztime’s Texas Hold ‘Em Video Poker

Texas Hold’em players have a new method to play their favorite game. We’re all familiar with NTN Buzztime trivia games made popular in bars, now poker has been added to the selection. You can play free tournaments in your local pub and win prizes or drink tabs offered by the establishment. The table is displayed on a television screen and you make plays through a wireless device.

You not only play against other players but against poker bots as well. Some bots play tight and others play aggressive, there are four different types. The bots are used to fill tables so the games are more competitive.

I think the games would be very aggressive, considering that they’re played in a bar and people are drinking. It’s too bad that there isn’t a buy-in; it would be a good place to go hunting for fish full of booze and chicken wings.

Video Poker Superstitions

July 24th, 2008

superstitions

Many gamblers have superstitions about the games they play. For some reason people think that the games are predicable, and by doing certain things you expect a definite outcome. Here’s a few of the best ones.

- The higher you bet the less you win. Each hand has the same probability as the next one does. There is no way to influence the random number generator by betting.

- A machine that just paid out will not pay out again. A machine has the same chance of hitting a jackpot two or three times in a row as it does hitting any combination.

- Some people believe they predict the next card. After playing a lot, players think that certain draw sequences are predicable. If this were true they should be able to win a lot of easy money.

Video Poker Strategy: Always Play Highest-Paying Pay Table

July 17th, 2008

Video Poker Strategy

If there’s one rule to consider before you play a video poker game it’s the payout table. Some games are better than others, and playing at inferior games will cost you money in the long run. You can often find two identical games side-by-side that have different pay tables.

By looking at the pay table you can figure out the game’s expected return. Usually the casinos will lower the payout by reducing the coins paid for the full house and the flush, but the reduction can be somewhere else on the pay table, depending on the game. A rule of thumb is that the payout will be reduced by 1.1% for each coin taken away from either of these hands. If the return for these hands drops to 8/5 or 6/5, the payout percentage will drop dramatically. So search out the best pay tables.

Video Poker a Big Gamble?

July 10th, 2008

poker

Is video poker a big gamble, or is it a good percentage game to play? These games can be both, really, it depends on you. If you don’t know proper playing strategy for the game you’re playing, they can be a poor way to gamble. Pay out percentages drop quickly if you’re not playing optimum strategy. You’ll also want to find games with a higher pay-out percentage. The percentage will be posted right on the game somewhere, so take the time to find one that has at least 98%.

Even played at optimum strategy these games can produce long streaks where they don’t pay out. You should have a good-size bankroll to play. $100 is a good amount for the quarter games, betting $1.25 max bet every time. That gives you 80 spins, plus the credits you win; roughly a 500 to 1 chance of hitting the jackpot.

Video Poker: As American as Apple Pie?

July 3rd, 2008

apple pie

Video poker machines are an American invention. Most casino games come from other parts of the world and have been around for at least multiple decades. Video poker games were created in Nevada in the early 70’s by A-1 Supply, (founded by William S. Redd, later becoming SIRCOMA and then International Game Technology). They popularized the games in Vegas Casinos, buying out competition along the way.

The games have spread throughout the U.S. and can be found in New York, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas – plus aboard the cruise ships of the world. Video poker machines can be found in Canada, but are mainly played by American gamblers.

The games continue to grow in popularity, and new software developments keep them fresh and exciting. Progressive jackpots can make the games a positive gambling situation for the player if they learn to execute optimum strategy for the game they’re playing.
